The 50th Anniversary Version badges commemorate Yamaha's victorious race debut within the 1955 Mount Fuji Ascent race in Japan.
The yellow/black/white color scheme was made well-known when Kenny Roberts gained 500cc World Championships in 1978 and '79. Yamaha ran these colors on the Laguna Seca spherical of MotoGP in 2005 on the Yamaha YZF-M1 (Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards). Consquently, the color scheme has trickled all the way down to the R6 and R1 for 2006.
The Arai Corsair helmet can also be a reproduction of Edwards' lid from the Laguna spherical. It is really a "throwback" from Roberts' previous lid as properly.
